Malaysia will introduce SOCSO’s new scheme, “Lindung 24 Jam”, effective June 2026. The key features are as follows:
- The scheme provides round-the-clock (24-hour) protection, including coverage for accidents occurring outside of working hours.
- Coverage is expanded beyond workplace and commuting accidents, offering enhanced overall protection for employees.
- All employees covered under SOCSO, including foreign workers, will be included in this scheme.
- Contributions will be fully borne by employees, at a rate of 0.75% to 1.25%, to be implemented in phases.
- Contributions are subject to a salary ceiling of RM6,000.
- Employers are not required to contribute, but remain responsible for administrative compliance.
- Employers must manage salary deductions, reporting, and monthly contributions to SOCSO.
- The first contribution (for June 2026) must be submitted by 15 July 2026.
- Implementation will require updates to payroll systems (e.g. ASSIST 2.0).
- For Japanese companies, timely communication with headquarters and expatriates will also be important.
Early preparation is strongly encouraged to ensure a smooth transition ahead of the June 2026 implementation.
